Gorgeous Cana Vineyards & Winery

How else do you describe the gorgeous Cana Vineyards and Winery of Middleburg?  Stunning, yes!  Spectacular views of the Blue Ridge Mountains and Bull Run, yes! Wonderful for weddings and events, yes!  It was love at first sight for us and as photographers/wine lovers — a WOW of perfection in color, light, landscape.  Is there more?  Absolutely — majestic sunsets,  delicious wines, an incredibly gracious owner, Les Bell, and a fun and knowledgeable wine staff.  Their Cana Wine Club is a must-join to make this winery experience complete.

Why the name “Cana” ?  “In Cana of Galilee, at a wedding feast, Jesus performed the first of His many miracles: He turned water into wine! In the course of the feast, the wine was depleted. If this situation were disclosed, the groom would be shamed. But Jesus showed compassion. At His command, six stone jars were filled with water. A little was drawn out and taken to the master of the banquet. When he had tasted the wine, the banquet master pulled the groom aside and praised him for going against tradition by saving the very best wine for last.” 1/

Tasting Notes

We enjoyed all of their wines and especially:

2011 Traminette: “Dry, yet is so spicy and fruity that it seems sweet. Aromas of honeysuckle and orange blossoms abound in this wine.”   Bronze Medal, 2013 Virginia Governor’s Cup.

2011 Cabernet Franc: “Fabulous aromas of red fruits with hint of vanilla. New American Oak is woven into the wine.”   Bronze Medal, 2013 Virginia Governor’s Cup.

2011 Le Mariage:   “Our best barrels were selected for this  [Red] wine.  Cana Vineyards is the first winery in Virginia to barrel ferment reds in the innovative fermentation barrels produced by T.W. Boswell.”   Silver Medal, 2013 Virginia Governor’s Cup.
